“Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance” to enable seamless file transfer with just one click
New file transfer system launched in anticipation of 5G adoption
Beijing, CHINA, January 2, 2020 – Global technology leader Xiaomi announced today its partnership with mobile phone giants OPPO and vivo on bringing the innovative new wireless file transfer system to consumers in global markets.
This is the latest move of the cross-brand initiative “Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance”, a new system that enables seamless cross-brand file transfer with just one click.
This wireless transfer feature has been available on MIUI 11*. Users of Xiaomi smartphones can experience the feature with Mi Share.
Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo have established the “Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance” to provide users with an unparalleled file transfer experience. The new wireless file transfer system will allow users of these three brands to easily transfer files between their mobile devices without the need for any third-party applications or network data. This system also supports a wide range of files, including photos, videos, music, documents and more.
“This expansion of the Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance to global users all the more underlines Xiaomi’s longstanding commitment of bringing innovation to everyone. By joining hands with vivo and OPPO, two industry leaders that have a strong user base, we are expecting to benefit smartphone users globally. Xiaomi will continue to bring more strategic partnerships of this sort to our users and Mi Fans,” said Chew Shou Zi, Senior Vice President of Xiaomi.
Instant and stable connection with low power consumption
The wireless file transfer system provides a streamlined mobile experience which does not require internet connection. It uses Bluetooth for fast pairing and WiFi P2P (Peer to Peer) technology for the data transfer, bringing together an instant, stable and high-speed connection between devices, as well as low power consumption. This technology delivers an average transfer speed of 20MB/s. Also, the WiFi P2P technology does not interrupt the WiFi connection, meaning users remain connected and can continue their activities on the device during the file transfer.
For example, sharing photos to a smartphone of a different brand is much more convenient: once the file sharing feature is turned on on both devices, all that the users have to do is tap the “Share” button under a photo, select the other device, and tap “Send”.
Customer-first approach to drive healthy industry development
The Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance is a collective commitment between Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo to drive the next generation of mobile experience. Together, the three brands will continue to openly collaborate to deliver new technological breakthroughs. The alliance is also looking forward to welcoming more brands to join for an expansion that is beneficial to all.
*This feature is compatible with devices running Android Pie or later versions (not including Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Redmi 7A, Redmi 7, Redmi S2, Redmi 8, Redmi 8A, Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8T). Please refer to the announcements from OPPO and vivo for the availability of this feature.
