China’s Gen Z investors are turning fund managers into social media stars

On a fan community page on Chinese social media platform Weibo, hundreds of users have posted comments and pictures, some covered in little red hearts, to express their admiration for a star they affectionately call Kun Kun. “Kun Kun flies bravely, iKun will always follow him; Kun Kun never gets old, and will remain a blue-chip till the end,” some users wrote alongside the picture. “Kun Kun,” whose full name is Zhang Kun, is neither a pop star nor actor. Instead, he is one of China’s most prominent fund managers who oversees around 120 billion yuan ($18.6 billion) in assets at E Fund Management, an established Chinese asset management firm. Zhang’s followers, who label themselves “iKun,” (“i” is a homophone for the Chinese word love), have also created accounts on Weibo posing as his “global fan clubs.” “Kun Kun, I would like to accompany you for many, many years,” a follower wrote. “Let’s witness both the bull and bear markets, but still return with young hearts.”

Redmi K30 5G with 10GB RAM appears on TENAA

The  Redmi K30 5G  will go on sale on January 7, 2020. The phone which was announced earlier this month is the first in the world to be powered by the Snapdragon 765G. When it goes on sale, it will be available in four configurations with the base model having 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage while the highest configuration will have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Shortly after the launch, the device appeared on TENAA’s database, and the listing  revealed there is a 12GB RAM + 512GB version  that wasn’t announced at the event. Now another TENAA listing has been published and this mentions a 10GB RAM version. This new listing has a slightly different model number which is M2001G7AC, unlike the first listing whose model number is M2001G7AE. The spec sheet lists three RAM variants – 6GB, 8GB, and the new 10GB while the available storage variants are 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. This means the 10GB RAM version should have 256GB of storage. Of course, the Redmi K30 5G is not the first phone with

Forget Galaxy S11 – the Galaxy S20 Ultra may be Samsung's new flagship phone

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series may be coming nine years sooner than expected, as a new leak suggests what we've heard before: Samsung is set to leapfrog the  Galaxy S11  and  a bunch of numbers  in its flagship phone naming scheme. The unverified rumor gets even more interesting, as there may not be a Samsung Galaxy S20e in 2020. Instead, the South Korea company would start with the Galaxy S20, and offer the Galaxy S20 Plus and Galaxy S20 Ultra as higher-end models, according to the leak from case-maker  Schnailcase . The details in the new leak include all of the names of the phones as well as their respective screen sizes, as noted in a tweet by the founder of Shcnailcase. The  Galaxy S10  lineup included a total of four phones, with the  Galaxy S10e  on the lowest end and the specialized  Galaxy S10 5G  on the highest end (it launched a bit later than the rest of the S10 phones). This doesn't count the still rumored  Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite , which we could see at

Watch a pair of iPhone back panels be removed using lasers because why not?

Source: EverythingApplePro What you need to know Replacing iPhone rear panels isn't easy. It can be made easier with a $2,000 laser machine. It's fun to watch, too. Replacing the rear panel on modern iPhones isn't as easy as it used to be. They're basically glued into place, and getting them off is difficult. But using a laser to burn away that glue makes the whole thing less troublesome. And watching it happen is pretty entertaining, too. You can see the whole process thanks to YouTuber EverythingApplePro, and it's way more fun than it ought to be. The laser apparently costs around $2,000 to buy, but if you're running a phone repair shop that's probably a very sound investment. Especially considering Apple charges up to $600 to replace a broken iPhone 11 Pro panel. As the video shows, the laser does most of the work by softening and removing the adhesive that holds the back panel on. But then it's down to the repair person to complete the job with a lit

Huawei gets a green light from India for 5G trials

Huawei officially has a shot at helping the world's  second-largest internet market  build its 5G network. India will not exclude the embattled Chinese company from the country's forthcoming 5G trials, a senior government official  confirmed  Monday. "We have taken a decision to give 5G [bandwidth] for trial to all the players," Ravi Shankar Prasad, the country's minister for technology and communications, said at an event in New Delhi. The green light from India will serve as a welcome reprieve for Huawei as it  battles a US-led campaign  against its business. Washington has alleged that Beijing could use Huawei products to spy on other nations, with the US government urging global allies to block the Chinese firm's products from their 5G networks. Huawei, the world's largest telecommunications equipment maker and a leading smartphone brand, denies that its products pose a national security risk. "We thank the Indian government for their

Smartphone maker Vivo assures offline retailers of price parity in 2020

In a recent letter addressed to its retailer community, Jerome Chen, CEO of Vivo India, said that in the coming year it will “simultaneously launch the same product/variant at the same time and at the same price across channels”. It also said that there will be consistency in prices and offers across both the channels. “Your reassurance to AIMRA (All-India Mobile Retailers Association) is a welcome step towards fostering harmony and parity between both offline/online models. Brands must play a crucial role in bringing back sanity to e-commerce,” Sumit Agarwal, National Sectretary of retail body, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said in a recent tweet. Samsung to debut a first of its kind bezel-less TV at CES 2020

According to a new report,  Samsung Electronics  is set to unveil its premium grade bezel-less TV in  CES 2020  (Consumer Electronics Show). Apparently, the TV will also be the first design of its kind. Reportedly, multiple senior executives like Kim Hyun-seok and others from the South Korean tech giant, gave the upcoming top notch entertainment product a thumbs up. This implies that Samsung has plans to start mass production of the TV from February. One of the notable aspects regarding the TV which sets it apart is its bezel-less display. In other words, the borders of the TV’s body are now more seamless with its display panel. Samsung will be making this a basic feature for its TV series lineup sized 65 inches and larger. The company has achieved this by closely welding together the display panel and the main body of the TV; using equipment from the Shinsegye Engineering for the process. Additionally, Samsung also collaborated with another local supplier named Taewha Precision to sup

Realme trademarks ‘SuperDart’ fast charging tech, to rival Xiaomi’s ‘SuperCharge Turbo’

Smartphone companies are aggressively working on more powerful and faster chargers for mobile devices. The latest to join the race is Realme. According to a new leak, Realme has acquired trademark for a “Realme SuperDart” charging technology. While there’s no word on the capacity of Realme’s charging tech, reports suggest it could rival Xiaomi’s “100W “ Super Charge Turbo ” technology. Xiaomi showcased the 100W charger at a Developer Conference in China last month. In its demo video, Xiaomi’s 100W charger managed to charge a 4,000mAh battery from 0% to 100% in just 17 minutes. In comparison,  Oppo’s 50W SuperVOOC  charger achieved 65% charge in the same amount of time. Xiaomi’s 100W charger, however, hasn’t launched commercially yet. Currently, Oppo leads the fast charging race with ‘Super Vooc Flash Charge’ technology. Oppo in October this year introduced Reno Ace with 65W adapter which is claimed to deliver 0% to 27% charge in about five minutes. Vivo, in the meanwhile, i

Huawei Mobile Services 4.0 beta is packing more features and getting closer to Google's offering.

In the wake of soured relations between Huawei and the US, life has been anything but easy for the Chinese tech giant. However, that doesn’t mean that acceptance or desperation have settled in. Quite the contrary, Huawei and its subsidiaries and sister companies have really been doubling-down hard to make up for lost ground and still come out on top. Whether through impressive efforts into  5G  infrastructure, expansion and contracts or the aggressive Western marketing for tech accessories like  smart TVs  and  wearables , which haven't been affected by various trade bans quite as badly. And these are just some of the reactionary measures in the tech realm we are observing first-hand. Huawei's contingency plans stretch far and beyond and operate with impressive scope. Software effort has been huge in this process. And we're not just talking about the company's  HarmonyOS , which still holds great promise as an Android alternative and beyond. Huawei's recent work on

What to expect from Google in 2020

If you wanted to summarise 2019 for Google, it should probably start with Hey Google. The company has pushed  Google Assistant  in a number of directions, but it's starting to feel as though Assistant is the glue that's holding together Google's many-stringed bow. Google is really a data company: it knows what you search for, it knows how you're approaching the world, serving you with maps, indexing the contents of your photos and running about half the world's smartphones through Android, but it's Assistant, or rather Google's growing AI, that can return this data as something useful to customers.  While Google has expanded its Home devices - now under the umbrella of Nest - and refreshed its smartphones, it's really Assistant and AI that makes these devices. Google's phones are good because of the camera AI, its home devices edge out Amazon because of Assistant's AI - and things like the live transcription of voice, or ability to an

Huawei may sell up to 100 million 5G phones in China alone next year, Japanese supplier predicts

FILE PHOTO: Huawei logo © Global Look Press / Andre M. Chang As the 5G era comes closer with more and more operators preparing to switch to next generation networks, China’s telecom giant is set to satisfy enormous domestic demand, shipping 100 million smartphones in 2020. This is according to Shoichi Tosaka, chief executive of the Japanese materials and electronics company Taiyo Yuden, which supplies ceramic capacitors to various smartphone makers. In an interview, the CEO said that Huawei, together with another Chinese tech firm ZTE, placed the most orders for components to make more 5G base stations. “We’re already getting orders for 5G base stations,”  he said earlier this week as cited by media.  “Early next year we should start seeing 5G-related orders for smartphones.” The growing demand comes despite the US continuing to push Huawei out of its market and pressures its allies to follow suit. Washington has already blacklisted the company, but European states are still divided on

GALAXY A30S WITH 128GB STORAGE UNVEILED IN INDIA

Back in September  Samsung  released the Galaxy A30s in India. The mid-range contender arrived in the Indian stronghold with just 4GB of 64GB of internal storage. Yeah, we know that it is the standard for a mid-range device, but there are some users who definitively need more storage in their smartphones and just a microSD card slot isn’t enough. For that kind of user, Samsung is  releasing  a new revised variant that comes with the same 4GB of RAM but doubles the storage to 128GB. ‌ The new variant retails for INR15,999 (~$225) but can only be found across the offline stores. However, we expect to see it reaching other popular online stores such as Flipkart and Amazon. In addition to launching a new version of the Galaxy A30s, the firm is also cutting the price of the 64GB model. Now, users who consider 64GB enough can purchase the handset for INR14,999 (~$210) through Samsung India’s website and Flipkart. ‌ Apart from the additional storage, the internals remains the same
